The Merchant Category Code (MCC) identifies the type of service a business provides. The transaction will decline if the MCC listed above does not match the retailer’s category.

Where can I use my Restaurant Choice gift card?

You can use your Restaurant Choice gift card at thousands of restaurants, bars, cafes & fast-food establishments that accept EFTPOS or Visa cards around Australia. The Restaurant Choice Gift Card can be used at the following merchant category locations: Eating Places and Restaurants (5812), Hotels, Caterers (5811), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars,Taverns, Cocktail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (5813) Fast Food Restaurants (5814) Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (7011), Amusement Parks, Circuses, Carnivals, and Fortune Tellers (7996). How do I pay a bill with my Restaurant Choice gift card?

When paying your restaurant bill, present your gift card to the restaurant and let them know what amount you wish to pay with your gift card. You can choose to either pay the full bill with your gift card (if your balance is sufficient), or you can split the payment between your gift card and another payment method. Your Restaurant Choice Gift Card works the same as a Visa or eftpos debit card. It can be used at thousands of restaurants, bars, cafes & fast-food establishments that accept EFTPOS or Visa cards around Australia. To redeem your Restaurant Choice physical Gift Card in-store: Simply present your Restaurant Choice gift card Swipe your card, select “Savings” if you have an EFTPOS card or select “Credit” if you have a Visa Card and when asked for the PIN, enter the 4-digit PIN that is under the scratch panel on the back of the Gift Card. If the value of the purchase is more than the amount of the gift card, you can supplement the additional value with cash or another payment method that is accepted by the restaurant.

Can Restaurant Choice Gift Cards be used to make purchases online?

Yes, Restaurant Choice Gift Cards with the Visa can now be used online. If you have an eftpos Restaurant Choice gift card it cannot be used online. In-store purchases: If your purchase is larger than your balance, ask the cashier to swipe the gift card for the exact amount available on the card. Then pay the remaining balance with another form of payment. These are called “split transactions.” Some merchants do not allow cardholders to carry out split transactions. Some merchants will only allow you to do a split transaction if you pay the remaining amount in cash. Online purchases:  Online merchants don’t have the capabilities to perform split credit transactions.
