Shinbashi Yakiniku Japanese BBQ – Carlton

This new addition to Lygon Street is one slick fit out. The polished concrete, dark timber tables and bench seats, and low, broody lighting make for one molto chic dining room. It’s at odds with the pizza and pasta joints who are neighbours to this newcomer. But what a welcome and interesting new arrival Shinbashi Yakiniku is. Yakiniku translates as grilled meat. Fundamental to Japanese cuisine is the commitment to celebrating the simple beauty of premium ingredients. At Shinbashi, premium cuts of meat and seafood– from pork belly to Australian Wagyu beef, Japanese scallops to tiger prawns –are grilled to perfection at your table. The food is simple, unforgettable flavoursome and beautifully textured. Shinbashi is the Melbourne incarnation of Charlie Cheng’s Brisbane Japanese barbecue eatery of the same name which has been running for more than ten years. This Melbourne venue is a very cool newcomer with cuisine which is well above the average. Experience this new Lygon Street destination as soon as you can.
