Izakaya Kuuraku

This big and buzzy Japanese bar in the centre of Melbourne is quite fabulous. A fine looking place with high ceilings, exposed support beams, pendant lights, polished concrete floors and concrete walls, it is urban design at its boldest and best. This Bourke Street eatery is the first incarnation of Izakaya Kuuraku to open in Australia. And it is a welcome arrival in the heart of corporate Melbourne. (Izakaya Kuuraku is also churning out the goods in Japan, Canada, India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.) Spirited, swanky and serving excellent yakitori, the freshest slices of sushi, and a mind-boggling amount of sake, Izakaya Kuuraku is the place to try. You can even share Japanese tapas while you catch up with friends. This place is a cool as they come gourmet haven, and an exciting addition to Melbourne.
